Material performance

Why cast iron for drainage.

High strength

Robust cast iron construction with excellent impact resistance and no deformation under normal service.

Corrosion resistance

Internal epoxy coating with a smooth bore, maintaining long-term hydraulic performance and system durability.

Pressure resistance

Pipes and fittings withstand static accidental water pressure of up to 5 bar when tested individually.

Noise suppression

Cast iron mass and the elastomeric coupling sleeve absorb shock and vibration for a quieter drainage stack.

Fire resistance

Non-combustible throughout, with low thermal expansion across the operating range.

Service life

Long design life, quick socketless installation, and full electrical continuity across the system.

Jointing

Couplings.

Hubless couplings meet all mechanical requirements of BS 6087, with SS 304 or SS 316 shields and clamps and elastomeric sealing sleeves to BS EN 681-1. The sleeve compound resists abrasion, oil, grease, chemicals, UV, heat and cold, and cushions shock and vibration. All couplings maintain electrical continuity.

Design & installation

Support and tolerance.

Angular deflection

Couplings accommodate misalignment up to 3° under 0.5 bar water pressure. Pipelines should still be properly aligned and supported during installation.

Hanger spacing

Maximum span between hangers on horizontal pipe 2.0 m. Coupling to nearest hanger ≤ 750 mm. For fittings ≤ 500 mm.

Pressure testing

Pressure-test all pipelines before concealment or installation in areas with restricted access, to confirm system integrity before completion.

Applications

Where it is used.

Above-ground gravity drainage — soil, waste and rainwater discharge; ventilation systems; aggressive effluent drainage; and underground drainage networks. Suitable for residential, commercial, high-rise and industrial buildings.
